From Scottish Retreat to Global Impact with Accounting for Sustainability (A4S)

We have been supporting A4S on their ambitious FASTtrack 2050 initiative dedicated to answering one fundamental question: What are the most important, high-impact actions the global finance and accounting profession must take to fundamentally shift the world toward a sustainable future?

To help chart this essential course, we had the privilege of helping A4S to plan, coordinate and deliver a two-day strategy retreat for leaders across the profession, hosted by The King’s Foundation at the magnificent Dumfries House in Scotland.

It was an environment designed for deep reflection and bold ideas.

Against the backdrop of this stunning, historic location, our sessions focused on the biggest opportunities the profession can bring to bear. For example we explored:

• how to advance the global proliferation of sophisticated scenario analysis

• the emerging role of sector transition finance planning; and

• opportunities to further accelerate coherence and maturity in global standards for reporting and disclosure. 

This was a time for these leaders to truly roll up their sleeves, challenge conventions, and collaboratively design the next phase of action.

But the power of a retreat was not just in the agenda, but in the human connection. Amidst the crucial discussions, we were treated to the genuine warmth of Scottish hospitality. Highlights included enjoying wonderful shortbread in the beautiful Walled Garden Conservatory and a truly unforgettable moment when a traditional bagpiper welcomed us to dinner.

These moments underscored the joy of gathering in-person and the importance of creating a space where inspiration and serious work can coexist.
